If you’ve ever loved an addict, then you know how painfully challenging it can be - because all you want them to do is get better. But as we know, addicts don’t get better when we beg them to - they only get better when they hit rock bottom and they realize they HAVE TO. Before it’s too late. The real life man I played in The Smashing Machine, Mark Kerr, wound up overdosing twice as he knocked on death’s door. God’s grace threw him a lifeline, so he could save himself. And he did. Today he’s a shining example of despite how far one may fall, there’s always hope and action that you can rise again. Sober and stronger. Grateful and humble. THANK YOU to our friend, director Bennett Miller for sitting with Benny Safdie and I, and moderating this great in-depth talk about our film and Benny’s acumen to create very vulnerable, intense and emotional “lived in” human moments. I get asked a version of this question all the time ~ “what’s the life hack for success and greatness?” For starters you can 👇🏾 stay hungry stay humble stay the f#%k in bed *🤣💤 Truth is, there is no hack. But one philosophy I keep tight is this - I used to ask myself, “what am I willing to do that others aren’t willing to do” to achieve the thing that I chase. These days I’ve shortened it, but evolved it to simply… what am I willing to do? Hold the mirror up, and just work. This mindset ☝🏾 keeps me focused on the things I need to do, the things I can control, like my effort, my gratitude, my peace - as opposed to constantly thinking about what the next guy is doing. These days I serve an audience of one. Give it a shot, and get to work. 👊🏾
