The Last Train

It was a chilly evening in the small town of Willowbrook. The station was nearly empty, save for a single figure sitting on the bench, gazing out at the dimming horizon. Her name was Clara, and she was waiting for the last train out.

The town had never felt so quiet, the usual hustle and bustle of the market and street vendors silenced by the coming of winter. Clara had grown up here, but tonight, it felt as though she was leaving a part of herself behind.

Her eyes drifted to the tracks, the steel rails shimmering under the glow of the station's lone lamp. She had never thought she'd be leaving Willowbrook. After all, it was home. But life had a way of changing things, and she was headed for a new chapter, one that would take her far from the familiar faces and the winding roads.

The whistle of the train broke through her thoughts, a sharp, metallic sound that echoed in the stillness. Clara stood up, her heart racing. She hadn’t expected the moment to arrive so quickly, but there it was—her departure.

The train rolled into the station with a soft screech, its headlights casting long shadows on the platform. She took a deep breath and grabbed her bag, the weight of the decision settling in her chest.

As the doors slid open, Clara hesitated for a moment, her eyes scanning the empty seats. It felt strange, leaving without saying goodbye to anyone, but there had been no one left to say it to. The people who mattered most to her had already gone, each one following their own paths, each one leaving Willowbrook behind.

With one last look at the town she once knew so well, Clara stepped onto the train, the doors closing softly behind her. The engine roared to life, and the train began to move, pulling away from the station and away from her past.

As the lights of Willowbrook faded into the distance, Clara whispered to herself, "It’s time."

And as the train sped into the night, she realized that sometimes, leaving was the only way to find where you truly belonged.
