Born in 1963 in Barbados and raised in Wales, June and Jennifer Gibbons were identical twins who became known as "The Silent Twins" due to their eerie and unexplained behavior.

From early childhood, the twins spoke to no one but each other — and even then, in a private, sped-up dialect no one else could understand. They were completely isolated socially and refused to communicate with family, teachers, or therapists.

😨 The Chilling Part:

As they got older, their bond grew even more disturbing. Their behavior turned darker — they engaged in petty crime, arson, and were eventually institutionalized in Broadmoor Hospital (a high-security psychiatric facility) for 11 years.

Psychiatrists and nurses noticed something deeply unsettling:

The girls behaved as though they were possessed when apart — one would appear to stop breathing or collapse if the other was upset.

They often mirrored each other’s movements perfectly, like a reflection — without seeing each other.

Each believed the other had to die for one to truly live.


🪦 The Terrifying Climax:

One day in 1993, after years of confinement, they were told they might be transferred to a lower-security facility. On the way there, Jennifer suddenly collapsed in the van. She died hours later of sudden, unexplained heart inflammation — no drugs, poison, or illness found.

June later told a journalist chillingly:

> “We had a pact. One of us had to die… I’m free now.”



After Jennifer’s death, June became fully functional, began speaking to others normally, and went on to live a quiet life.
