In a rural province, there is a legend of the "Thirteenth Passenger." If you are riding a jeepney late at night and the driver suddenly stops at a deserted crossroads where no one is waiting, don't look at the empty seat next to you. The driver has seen someone you can't see. If you offer to pay for the "invisible" passenger's fare, you’ll arrive home safely. If you complain about the delay, you’ll find muddy footprints leading from the jeepney all the way to your bedroom door the next morning.
