Sometimes people get so exhausted that they stop reacting to what others say. When you're mentally drained, it feels easier to act like you don't care. To laugh it off, or brush away hurtful words as if they don't matter. This is a defence mechanism. Your mind goes numb to protect itself. Because it doesn't have the energy to argue or process in the moment. But later, when you're alone, those words creep back in. You replay the conversation wondering, "Did they really mean that?" "Was there truth in their tone?" This cycle happens because exhaustion lowers your defe but doesn't erase your sensitivity.In the moment, your brain focuses on survival. Later, reflection can turn into rumination, leaving you carrying the weight you thought you had ignored. It's not weakness. It's just how the mind copes.
