“The Voice in the Hallway” Rayan was home alone for the night. His parents had gone out of town, and his older brother wouldn’t be back until morning. At first, it felt amazing—no rules, no noise, just him, his phone, and total freedom. But around 1:13 AM, things changed. He was lying in bed, scrolling, when he heard it. A soft knock. Tap… tap… tap… It came from the hallway. Rayan froze. He sat up slowly, staring at his bedroom door. “Probably just the house settling,” he whispered to himself. Then it happened again. Tap… tap… tap… This time, louder. He got up and walked toward the door, his heart beating faster with each step. He opened it. The hallway was empty. Dark. Silent. He turned on the hallway light. Nothing. Feeling a bit stupid, he went back into his room and shut the door. That’s when his phone buzzed. A message. From his brother. “Hey… are you home right now?” Rayan frowned and typed back: “Yeah, why?” The reply came instantly. “I just got a call from you.” Rayan’s stomach dropped. “I didn’t call you.” Typing… Then another message: “You didn’t say anything. Just heavy breathing… and knocking.” Before Rayan could respond— Tap… tap… tap… This time… from inside his room. Slowly… he turned around. His closet door was slightly open. And from the darkness inside… Something knocked back.
