They told him to put his son in an institution and forget about him. Instead, he pushed him across 1,100 finish lines.This is Team Hoyt. Rick was born in 1962 with cerebral palsy, unable to walk or speak. While the world saw a boy with no future, his parents saw a fighter. They used a special computer to help him communicate. In 1977, Rick told his father: "Dad, I want to do a 5-mile benefit run." His father, Dick, was a 40-year-old lieutenant colonel who had never run a race in his life. Dick didn't just run. He pushed Rick’s wheelchair the entire way. After the race, Rick told him: "Dad, when I’m running, it feels like my disability disappears. That sentence changed everything. Dick started training every day, often pushing a bag of cement in the wheelchair when Rick was at school. Together, they tackled the impossible. They finished over 1,100 races, including 32 Boston Marathons and 6 grueling Ironmans. Dick swam pulling Rick in a boat and cycled with him across the country. Dick passed away in 2021, and Rick followed him in 2023.their race on earth might have ended but now they are running together in eternity as one iron soul They proved that "Yes You Can" is a reality.
