Nehemiah, a servant in the Persian court, heard that Jerusalem still lay in ruins. Its walls were broken, its gates burned with fire. Deeply moved, he prayed and sought permission to return and rebuild the city. When he arrived, he inspected the walls by night and called the people to rise and build. Despite opposition, threats, and mockery, the work continued. Some built with tools in one hand and weapons in the other. Each family took responsibility for a portion of the wall. In just fifty-two days, the walls of Jerusalem were restored. What seemed impossible became reality through unity and determination. This reading comes from the Book of Nehemiah, chapters 1 through 6. It reminds us that great restoration often requires courage, persistence, and collective effort.
