The Bizarre Trial of a Dead Pope!
Description
Script Vidéo
A pope was put on trial… After he was already dead. In the year 897, Pope Stephen VI ordered the corpse of a former pope to be dug out of its grave. The dead body of Pope Formosus was dressed in papal robes… Placed on a throne… And put on trial in front of a courtroom. A terrified deacon was forced to speak for the corpse while the pope screamed accusations at a dead man. The trial became completely insane. Formosus was found guilty. His fingers were cut off. His body was dragged through the streets of Rome… And thrown into the Tiber River. But the people of Rome were horrified. Soon after, Pope Stephen VI was overthrown… Thrown in prison… And strangled to death. History remembers it as “The Cadaver Synod” — One of the darkest and most bizarre events ever recorded.
