The Story of David and Goliath There was a giant warrior named Goliath who challenged the army of Israel. He was strong, feared, and heavily armed. The Israelite soldiers were afraid to fight him. A young shepherd named David came to visit his brothers who were in the army. Instead of being afraid, David believed that God would help him. King Saul offered David armor, but David refused because he was not used to it. He took only his sling and five smooth stones. When Goliath mocked him, David said that he came in the name of God. David placed a stone in his sling, aimed carefully, and struck Goliath on the forehead. The giant fell, and David won the battle.
