The only clue was that one of the lifeboats was missing. Some believe the crew abandoned the ship after fearing an explosion from the cargo. Others think a sudden storm or a mysterious accident caused them to escape. But the strangest part? The Mary Celeste was found perfectly seaworthy… meaning whoever left it may have stepped away expecting to return. They never did.
