I was 12 when my mom gave me one rule: Never look under your bed after midnight. She refused to explain why. Years later, I forgot about that rule. One night, I woke up at exactly 3:07 AM because I heard someone whisper my name from underneath me. At first, I thought I was dreaming. Then I heard scratching... Slow... Steady... Like fingernails dragging across the wood. I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight. My hand was shaking as I leaned over the edge of the bed. There was... nothing. I laughed at myself. Then my phone buzzed with a front camera notification. The camera had switched on by itself. The screen wasn't showing my face. It was showing under the bed. Something pale was smiling directly into the camera. It wasn't looking at the phone... It was looking at me. A cold hand wrapped around my ankle. My mom burst into my room and screamed, "I told you never to look." The next morning, my bed was empty. My mom says she still hears scratching... But now... It comes from under my son's bed.
