I never believed my grandfather's one rule. "If you hear knocking from the attic after midnight... don't answer it." We didn't even have an attic door inside the house. Then one night... Knock. Knock. Knock. Three slow knocks came from directly above my bedroom. I grabbed a flashlight and walked outside to check. There was a small attic window. Something was standing behind it. It looked exactly like me. It smiled... ...and knocked back from the inside. I stumbled backward and dropped the flashlight. When I looked up again, the window was empty. Shaking, I ran inside and locked every door. That's when I heard the same three knocks again. Not above me... From inside my bedroom closet. I never opened it. The next morning, I found three dusty handprints... On the inside of the closet door. As if something had been trying to get out all night.
