They'll tell you socialism is just kindness with a budget. Compassion, organized. Sharing, at scale. They'll wrap it in the language of the Sermon on the Mount and hand it to you like it's the Gospel with a government stamp.There's just one problem.The man who built socialism wrote that it begins with the abolition of religion. And every regime that ever took him seriously started by emptying the churches.This is not a coincidence. This is not an accident of history. This is the design. By the end of this, you will understand that socialism was never merely an economic theory competing for your wallet. It was a spiritual war, engineered from its foundation to dethrone God and seat the state in His place. And you will understand why it has kept that promise in every nation, in every century, where it has ever taken power.I warn you now. This will not be comfortable to hear. But it is necessary. So let us begin this journey of discovery together.Start with the man himself. Karl Marx.We are told Marx cared about the poor. That he wept for the worker. But read what he actually wrote, and a different man appears. In 1843 Marx wrote the words that became the beating heart of the entire movement. "Religion is the opium of the people." Think about what that means. Not a comfort to be respected. A drug to be taken away. Something that dulls the masses and must be stripped from them so they will wake up and serve the revolution instead.And in the Communist Manifesto itself, Marx and Engels wrote that communism "abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality." Read that again. Not reforms religion. Not reasons with it. Abolishes it. And morality along with it.This was not a footnote. This was the foundation. Marx understood something his modern disciples pretend not to know. You cannot make the state into a god as long as people still worship the real one. There is no room on the throne for two. And so the throne had to be emptied.Think about that. Before a single factory was seized, before a single dollar was redistributed, the first target was always the altar.Now watch what happened when men took Marx at his word.First, the Soviet Union. When the Bolsheviks seized power, they did not merely tax the church. They waged war on it. Churches were dynamited into rubble. Cathedrals were turned into warehouses and museums of atheism. Priests, bishops, and believers were arrested, sent to the gulags, and executed by the thousands. The goal, stated openly, was a society scrubbed clean of God within a generation. They called it scientific atheism. It was enforced with the firing squad.Second, China. Under Mao, religion was branded one of the four olds to be destroyed. Churches were shuttered. Bibles were burned. Believers were driven underground, where millions of them remain today, worshiping in secret, hunted by the state. This is not ancient history. This is happening right now, as you watch this, in the year we are living in. The persecution never ended. It only learned to use surveillance cameras.Third, Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge, in their quest for a perfect socialist year zero, murdered nearly a quarter of their own population, and made the practice of religion a death sentence. Buddhist temples became execution grounds.North Korea. Eastern Europe. Cuba. The pattern does not change. It only changes address. In every place socialism has taken full power, the church has been among the very first institutions it moved to silence, control, or destroy.Think about what this means. This is not one bad leader who went too far. This is not socialism betrayed by cruel men. This is socialism arriving exactly where its founder pointed it. Every single time.So why? Why must the church always be the first casualty? Why can these two things never share a nation in peace?Because they are answering the same question, and they cannot both be right.Christianity says your rights, your dignity, your very soul come from God, and that no earthly power stands above Him. Socialism says there is no God, and that the state is the highest authority there is. The provider. The judge. The giver of every good thing. One of these must bow to the other. And the socialist state has never once been willing to bow.Christianity says, "You shall have no other gods before Me." Socialism answers, "The state is the only god you need." These are not two systems that happen to disagree on tax policy. They are two rival kingdoms claiming the same throne. And that is why, wherever socialism rises, the cross must come down.Now, I know what some of you are preparing to type. But what about the book of Acts? The early church shared everything. They held all things in common. Wasn't that socialism?Hear me carefully, because this is the sleight of hand, and it matters.In Acts chapter 2, we read that the believers "had all things in common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need." But read the very next chapter. When Ananias sold his land, the apostle Peter said to him plainly, "While it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power?"Think about that. It was his own. Before he sold it, and after. The early church shared because hearts changed by God chose to give. It was voluntary. It was joyful. It flowed out of love for a Savior. That is charity. That is Christianity.Socialism is the opposite in every way that matters. It does not ask; it seizes. It does not change the heart; it points the gun. It is not the believer freely giving what is his own. It is the state taking what was never its own, by force, from people who had no choice. One is a gift laid at the apostles' feet. The other is a demand enforced at the barrel of a rifle. Do not ever let them tell you those are the same thing. Charity is of Christ. Coercion is of Caesar.And this is the choice that stands before every generation, including yours.Jesus said it plainly, in Matthew chapter 6, verse 24. "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."You cannot serve two masters. You cannot kneel before God and the all-providing state at the same time. Every socialist regime in history has understood this better than the smiling politicians who sell it to you today. They knew that to make the people depend entirely on the state, they first had to sever the people from God. So they emptied the churches. They silenced the pulpits. They taught the children there was no heaven above them and no authority above the party.They tried to take the throne of God. And they built a graveyard every time they tried.So when you hear it dressed up in soft words, in compassion, in fairness, in the language of the Gospel it secretly despises, remember what it is underneath. Remember what it has always required. Remember what it always comes for first.It does not come first for your money. It comes first for your God.He bore the cross so you could be free. He rose so death would not be the end. He reigns so that no state, no party, and no man could ever take His place.
