"If you hear your name deep in the woods... don't answer." In Algonquian folklore, the Wendigo is born when a person commits the ultimate taboo during a harsh winter: cannibalism. Instead of surviving, they're cursed. They become a gaunt, monstrous being driven by an endless hunger that can never be satisfied. The more it eats, the hungrier it becomes. Hunters told stories of finding massive tracks in the snow, hearing something pacing just beyond the tree line, and feeling watched for miles without ever seeing what followed them. The old warning was never to chase strange sounds or wander alone in the winter woods. Because if the Wendigo has already found your trail... It doesn't stop following until the hunger is fed.
