An alien civilization that's thousands or millions of years ahead of us could be communicating in ways we haven't even imagined. Or maybe they're simply too far away. Even if a civilization 1,000 light-years away sent us a message today, we'd receive it a thousand years later. Our reply would take another thousand years to reach them. A simple "Hello" becomes a 2,000-year conversation. And then there's the most unsettling possibility. Maybe intelligent civilizations are incredibly rare... or they don't survive long enough to explore the stars. So, have we found aliens? No. But the truth is... we haven't searched enough to conclude they're not out there. The universe has remained silent so far.
