The tapping started before I even unlocked my door. I stood in the hallway, listening. Three soft knocks. Then silence. I live alone on the 12th floor. No neighbors close enough to be at my door by accident. When I finally went inside, everything looked normal… except my bedroom light was on. I always turn it off before leaving. I checked my phone. No calls. No messages. But my voice memo app was open. There was a new recording. I don’t remember pressing record. I hit play. It was my voice… whispering. “Don’t turn around.” I froze. Because the tapping started again. This time… from inside my closet. And just before I moved, the voice on my phone said— “Too late.”
