They say if you hear someone whisper your name inside a tunnel, never answer. One boy thought it was just another creepy story. Every evening he walked through an old pedestrian tunnel on his way home. One night he heard it. A quiet voice behind him saying his name. He turned around, but nobody was there. The next night it happened again. This time the voice sounded closer. It whispered, “Wait for me.” He laughed and kept walking. When he reached the end of the tunnel, he noticed muddy footprints following him. There was only one strange thing. They ended exactly where he was standing. After that, his friends started disappearing. Each one had last been seen entering the same tunnel alone. The police searched everywhere but never found a single clue. The boy stopped using the tunnel, but every night the whisper came closer to his bedroom window. One evening the whisper became a scream. It called his name over and over. Terrified, he finally answered, “What do you want?” The room fell completely silent. Then a voice behind him whispered, “Your place.” The next morning his family found the bedroom empty. Only a trail of muddy footprints led to the window. Since then, people walking through that tunnel sometimes hear a frightened boy whispering from the darkness, begging them to answer his voice.
