The old seer slowly emerged from the forest carrying her wooden staff. She looked first at King Idoko... Then at Princess Amara. Finally she spoke the words the ancestors had shown her. "The future of both kingdoms no longer belongs to kings." "It belongs to love." Silence fell across the river. Every warrior waited. Every chief watched. Every heart stood still. King Idoko slowly removed his crown. Then laid it upon the ground. "If choosing love means losing my throne..." "...then so be it." Gasps spread through both armies. No king had ever done such a thing. King Ajegwu stared at him in disbelief. For the first time... He saw not an enemy... But a man willing to sacrifice everything for his daughter. Whether that sacrifice would bring peace... Or begin the greatest war the Igala Kingdom had ever known.. The silence beside the River Niger felt heavier than the sharpest sword. Neither army moved. Hundreds of warriors stood facing one another, their spears raised, waiting for a single command that could begin a war. King Idoko remained standing without his crown. Princess Amara stood beside him, tears filling her eyes. King Ajegwu stared at the crown lying upon the ground. Never before had he seen a king willingly lay down his greatest symbol of power. The old royal priest slowly lifted his carved staff. "The ancestors have spoken," he declared. "If a single spear is thrown today, both kingdoms shall lose everything." The chiefs looked at one another uneasily. Chief Achigili stepped forward. "My king... please return to your throne." King Idoko slowly shook his head. "What is a throne without peace?" Chief Ameh lowered his eyes. "What is a kingdom without its king?" Before anyone could answer... The ground beneath them began to tremble. The River Niger suddenly rose higher than anyone had ever seen. Strong winds swept across the riverbank. Dark clouds covered the sky. The old seer closed her eyes. "It has begun." Lightning struck the ancient iroko tree beneath which Idoko and Amara had first met. The enormous tree split down the middle with a deafening roar. Every warrior fell silent. The old seer slowly walked towards the broken tree. Hidden inside its hollow trunk was an ancient stone wrapped in faded cloth. The royal priest carefully unfolded it. Ancient Igala symbols covered its surface. The priest's hands trembled as he read aloud. "When love chooses sacrifice over pride..." "...the curse upon the kingdoms shall end." Every chief gasped. King Ajegwu looked towards King Idoko. "Curse?" The priest nodded. "Many generations ago, our kingdoms were once one." "Our ancestors were brothers." "But greed divided them." "They swore an oath of hatred." "From that day, every generation inherited their bitterness." The priest looked at both kings. "The prophecy was never warning us against love." "It was warning us against hatred." Silence spread across the river. King Ajegwu slowly lowered his sword. He looked at his daughter. Then at King Idoko... Please follow for episode 7. Thanks.
