Then, in 1962, the world lost one of Hollywood's most unforgettable icons. Marilyn Monroe was found dead at her home in Los Angeles at just 36 years old. Her life, filled with extraordinary fame and personal struggles, remains one of the most discussed stories in entertainment history. On a brighter note, August 5, 2012, marked one of NASA's greatest engineering triumphs. After traveling more than 350 million miles through space, the Curiosity rover successfully landed on Mars using the daring "sky crane" maneuver. Its mission transformed our understanding of the Red Planet, discovering evidence that Mars once had the conditions necessary to support microbial life.
