The Night Guard's Secret
Description
Script Vidéo
The Night Shift Emma accepted the overnight security job because it paid almost double her previous position. The museum closed at 8 p.m. She worked from 10 until sunrise. During orientation, the manager handed her a flashlight and a map. “There are only four rules.” 1. Never enter Gallery Nine after midnight. 2. Ignore footsteps upstairs. 3. If an exhibit moves, don’t acknowledge it. 4. If the lights go out, close your eyes until they return. Emma assumed it was part of the training joke. ⸻ The first week was uneventful. Old paintings. Ancient statues. Complete silence. Then came Thursday. At exactly 12:01, every light flickered. Gallery Nine’s door slowly creaked open by itself. Emma remembered Rule One. She kept walking. Behind her came children’s laughter. Tiny footsteps followed. Her flashlight beam caught nothing. ⸻ At 2:13 a.m., she heard footsteps on the second floor. Heavy. Deliberate. Back and forth. Exactly as the rules described. The museum had no second floor. ⸻ Near 3 a.m., she passed the Egyptian exhibit. A stone statue that had faced east all week… Now faced directly toward her. She stared. The statue smiled. Emma forced herself to keep walking. ⸻ At 3:47 the power failed. Darkness swallowed everything. Rule Four. Close your eyes. She did. Silence. Then breathing. Very close. Something circled around her. She felt cold fingers brush her shoulder. Another breath against her ear. A whisper. “You looked.” Emma hadn’t. Had she? She kept her eyes shut. Minutes later the lights returned. She was alone. Or so she thought. ⸻ When she checked the security cameras before leaving… Every camera showed her walking alone. Except Camera 12. Someone walked beside her the entire night. Perfectly matching her pace. Invisible to her. The figure had no face. ⸻ Emma quit the next morning. The manager wasn’t surprised. He simply crossed her name off a list. Twenty-seven names already filled the page. All former night guards. Every one had resigned after exactly eight shifts. At the bottom of the paper… Someone had already written Emma’s replacement. His first shift started that night.
