Six children, ranging from 5 to 16 years old, were living in conditions prosecutors later compared to the treatment of prisoners of war. But the horror didn't stop with the cages. Investigators say the home had been turned into a prison. Homemade wooden cages surrounded children's beds. Some children were shackled by the ankles for hours at a time to keep them from reaching food. Security cameras watched nearly every movement, and alarms were allegedly attached to the restraints so adults would know if a child tried to escape. When police searched the home, they recovered three days of surveillance footage that documented the abuse. One recording allegedly showed an 11-year-old child lying in his own vomit after not eating for two days. Another child remained chained to a bed for 14 consecutive hours with no food, water, or access to a bathroom. Investigators also found images showing children forced to eat food from a filthy bathtub with their bare hands. The victims weren't strangers. They included the women's own children, relatives, a neighboring child, and a foster child. Investigators also learned that some of the children had not been attending school, leaving them isolated from adults who might have noticed the abuse sooner. The allegations stretched back for years before authorities finally intervened after a third-party tip. Jayme Kushman later pleaded guilty to five counts of child abuse and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Jaime Sena pleaded no contest to four counts and received six years.
