The international Board of Peace, chaired by President Donald Trump and backed under a UN Security Council resolution, has entered a critical phase of Gaza's post-conflict transition. In a high-level meeting, Board of Peace envoy Nickolay Mladenov met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging Israel to immediately halt its airstrikes after Hamas agreed to a formal disarmament roadmap on July 30. Under the proposed plan, Hamas would gradually surrender all of its weapons—including missiles, heavy artillery, combat tunnels, militia weapons, and even police firearms. As international inspectors verify each stage of disarmament, Israeli forces would begin a phased withdrawal from Gaza. Control of the territory would then shift to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a non-partisan Palestinian technocratic government led by former Palestinian Authority official Ali Shaath. An International Stabilization Force made up of personnel from allied nations would also deploy to secure border areas, protect key infrastructure, and help maintain stability during the transition. But several major challenges remain. Israel wants Hamas to completely dismantle its military infrastructure before withdrawing troops, while Hamas insists withdrawals must happen alongside the first stages of disarmament. Inside Israel, some senior cabinet ministers are also urging Netanyahu to reject the entire roadmap, arguing that international peacekeepers cannot replace Israeli military operations. Meanwhile, Gaza's new governing committee is still operating from Egypt because security conditions have not yet allowed it to establish itself inside the territory. The next two weeks could prove decisive. If both sides formally approve the agreement, international inspectors will finalize a detailed timetable for weapons handovers, troop withdrawals, and the beginning of Gaza's reconstruction.
