In the Netherlands, he became Sinterklaas, a cheerful figure riding a horse. Now, here comes the surprising part: when he arrived in America, he morphed into the jolly Santa we know today—thanks to a poem in the 1800s that described him as a plump, happy fellow with a sleigh of reindeer. This Santa wasn’t wearing red yet. That iconic outfit came later, courtesy of Coca-Cola in the 1930s. They painted him in festive red and white, solidifying the image we see everywhere.
