Two men were found dead on a hill in Brazil. They were wearing suits, raincoats… and homemade masks made of lead. But the strangest thing was lying beside them. A handwritten note. It contained a schedule. “4:30 p.m. — be at the designated location.” Then, at 6:30… “ingest capsules.” And after that, the instructions mentioned protecting metal… and waiting for a signal. This happened in August 1966. The men were Manoel Pereira da Cruz and Miguel José Viana, two electronics technicians. Three days before their bodies were discovered, they had traveled to Niterói, Brazil. Witnesses saw them buying raincoats and mineral water. Then they climbed Vintém Hill. Alive. What happened after that has never been established. When their bodies were discovered, they were lying side by side. There were no clear signs of violence. And covering their eyes were crude masks… cut from sheets of lead. Investigators couldn't explain what the masks were supposed to protect them from. But remember the note. It told them to take capsules… and then wait for a signal. So what was inside those capsules? We don't know. The autopsies failed to determine exactly how the men died, and reliable toxicology evidence was never obtained. That left investigators with theories ranging from accidental poisoning… to some kind of spiritual experiment. And later, the case became connected to stories about UFOs. But none of those explanations has ever been proven. What we actually know is much stranger. Two men deliberately climbed a hill. They brought lead masks. They followed a timed set of instructions. They apparently expected something to happen at 6:30 p.m. And whatever they were waiting for… they never came back down.
