THE GIRL IN THE BACK SEAT There’s an urban legend about a woman driving home alone late at night. It was almost 2 A.M. The highway was completely empty, surrounded by dark forest, and the only light came from her headlights cutting through the fog. Then she noticed a car behind her. At first, she ignored it. But every few minutes, the driver suddenly flashed his high beams. Bright white light filled her mirrors. Then darkness again. She accelerated. The car accelerated too. She changed lanes. It followed. Another flash. Then another. Now she was terrified. She became convinced the man was trying to force her off the road. She grabbed her phone, but there was no signal. So she drove faster. The car stayed directly behind her the entire way. When she finally reached her house, she slammed on the brakes, jumped out, and ran toward the front door screaming for help. The other driver stopped behind her. He jumped out too. But instead of chasing her… he shouted: “LOCK THE DOOR! CALL THE POLICE!” The woman froze. The man pointed toward her car. “There’s someone in your back seat.” Police arrived minutes later. Hidden behind the driver’s seat was a man holding a large knife. The driver behind her had seen him. Every time the stranger slowly raised himself behind her… he flashed his high beams. And every time the light filled the car… the man ducked back down. She thought she was being followed. Pause... But the entire time… the person she should have been afraid of… was already inside the car.
