My husband got upset with me over one sentence I said in front of his family. Yesterday, his mom, his two brothers, and their families were at our house. At some point, we started talking about home-cooked meals and how much effort they actually take. My husband said he never has to worry about food because I always make a fresh, warm meal. So I jokingly said, “Well, someone has to.” Everyone laughed, and I thought that was the end of it. But later that night, my husband told me my comment was unnecessary and made him look bad in front of his entire family. I told him I wasn’t trying to embarrass him. The problem is, I’ve already asked him before to help more around the house. But either things don’t get done, or they get done so poorly that I eventually just do them myself. He said if I feel overwhelmed, he can take on more chores. But then he ended the conversation by saying I should have known better than to make him look bad in front of everyone. So… was I wrong for saying, “Someone has to”?
