i love gujarati weddings #weddingplanning
it’s been so lovely and encouraging receiving your comments and messages about how helpful the series has been for so many of you - and how much you’ve wanted me to get into the physical symptoms like insomnia and hair loss. making this series was so cathartic for me and was such a good way to reflect on how far i’ve come this year, as well as how far i have yet to go. it means so much to me that in sharing, i’ve reached so many others who have been through big, traumatic breakups this year (is there something in the air?!) and made a hush-hush subject a little easier to approach for some 🌸 usually i write my captions for these episodes expanding on the content within, but i feel like this episode was pretty self-explanatory, so if you made it this far let’s talk; how’s your heart? how are you doing lately? if you’ve been through it this year, what’s one way you’ve seen yourself grow through it? 🫶🏽

when my engagement ended @abby govindan was there for me in so many ways, including teaching me the “yes” rule! i know new york is such a special and social place so finding friends might be easier here than other cities. if you’re going through a breakup in a place you’re not very rooted yet, here are some ways to get started: 🤍 sign up for a hobby class in your area 🤍 join a local facebook group’s events 🤍 look for event nights at local restaurants & bars 🤍 follow instagram pages for local designers, artists, and curators to see upcoming shows 🤍 ask your hometown community if they know anyone in your area always remember to be safe and cautious when engaging with/meeting people you encounter online! share your plans and location with friends or family beforehand ✨
✨ lovebombers may be closer than they appear • victims may be especially vulnerable after the end of a long-term relationship ✨ @TAHA
tw: mention of su!cidal ideations. today’s episode is extra important to me because i feel like a lot of our conversations around safety while in a mental health crisis start and end at sharing hotlines. i wanted to share more tangible steps you can take to ensure your safety and help loved ones help you. thank you for your patience during my break 💕 some strategy examples from my past plans: 🤍 listing specific breathing exercises i.e. 7-4-8 🤍 coloring books 🤍 putting ice cubes on my wrists 🤍 watching a comfort movie 🤍 going on a walk 🤍 calling a friend to take me on a long drive if you’re experiencing these kinds of thoughts, please remember to reach out to a licensed mental health professional. i am not a mental health professional myself & the suggestions in this video are neither medical advice nor a replacement for professional care. 🫶🏽

a few weeks ago, i went to the dentist, and before starting my cleaning my hygienist congratulated me on my wedding. then i went to my first site visit of the day, and one of the venue owners asked me how married life is. i kept it together in the moment, but i spent a lot of today crying in my car in between meetings. it’s none of their fault; these are little things i’d have normally responded to by thanking the other person for their thoughtfulness, and told them how sweet it was that they’d remembered. these might sound silly & small, but here are some things that i’ve been doing for these days: - keep kleenex in the car (this one is my mom’s doing) - don’t wear eye makeup - so nobody can tell i’ve been crying - practice what to say beforehand, like “the wedding was canceled, it’s a long story” (or else i just blurt out too much info out of anxiety) - call a friend afterwards next week we’ll talk about something a little more actionable - but this week I just wanted to talk to you about something i’ve been experiencing. I hope this makes someone feel a little less alone. 🌸
just wait til the kind one gets *really* mad though @Richa @Neha Singh 💋
here are the things i did to get through “the pit” — the lowest, darkest place i was in right after the breakup. i’ll admit that writing this script and filming this week was much heavier than i had expected. i’m sorry if this shows in my delivery. regardless, i felt like creating this episode was cathartic. i’m eternally grateful to my friends and family for all the support they gave me day in and day out while i was down there 🤍 — 1. saying “yes” to help — maybe it’s the oldest daughter in me, but i tend towards hyper-independence to a fault. i really had to accept that i needed to lean on people during this time. that meant accepting people’s offers to send food, take the trash out, or even come over to wash my pj’s. 2. letting people see me at my worst — because i have depression and adhd and also struggle with perfectionism, i tend to want to hide the “ugly” parts of my symptoms, like when i’m extra messy or when my personal hygiene gets bad. but in order to accept the physical and emotional support of my loved ones, i had to be okay with letting people see me at my worst. 3. getting out of bed every day — there were days i felt like i was on an endless cycle: from my bed, to my couch, and back to bed. since my sleep schedule was so off, i really needed that little bit of movement within my home to tell one day from the next. 4. venting to people who offered to listen — i’ll be honest, i was incredibly embarrassed by what happened and often didn’t want to talk to anybody at all. but part of accepting help is letting people be there emotionally. it was important for me to be fully honest about how i was feeling and what was hurting for me so i wouldn’t go through it alone. 5. meeting with my therapist regularly — i’m very fortunate to have access to therapy right now, but there are times that i contemplated canceling sessions because i didn’t want to have to face what was happening. my therapist helped me understand my physical and emotional responses in the context of my anxiety & other mental health conditions.
but is there any other way to be? 👀 @Seerat Saini ib: @Maria Clarin fits: @Sheel
hi loves 🦋 this is part 1 of my breakup recovery series, where i’ll be talking about my healing process. in the past few months, i’ve been away from social media as i’ve been going through this stressful & public breakup. the relationship i was involved in was a huge part of my social media presence, and everyone knows who the other person involved in this relationship is – as i open up and talk about what my healing process has been like, i would like for everyone to please remain respectful and mindful and not send any negativity towards anyone else. let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d like to know more about!

It was such an honor to attend this screening of Ava Duvernay’s newest film, Origin. After reading Isabel Wilkerson’s book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, this film adaptation has been highly anticipated on my watchlist for a while and it far exceeded my expectations. It is poignant, emotional, and a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of global movements for liberation. In theaters now! #Partner
