Canadian photographer François Brunelle has spent more than two decades photographing people who look like identical twins but share no family ties. His long-term project I’m Not a Look-Alike pairs unrelated strangers from different cities, countries, and backgrounds, revealing uncanny physical similarities that feel almost impossible to explain. Brunelle began the series in 1999 after repeatedly encountering people who resembled someone he knew. Since then, he has photographed hundreds of doppelgängers in stark black-and-white portraits, removing distractions so viewers focus purely on facial structure, expression, and presence. The subjects often meet for the first time on camera, creating an added layer of psychological tension and curiosity. Beyond the visual surprise, the project questions identity, coincidence, and how much of who we are is written into our features. Pad printing is a precision transfer method used to apply detailed graphics onto curved, textured, or irregular surfaces. The process begins with an etched plate that holds ink within its recessed areas. A soft silicone pad lifts the ink from the plate and presses it onto the object. Because the pad is flexible, it adapts to complex contours that flat printing techniques cannot accommodate. This is how logos and markings appear cleanly on pens, bottle caps, keyboards, toys, and many other everyday items, delivering sharp results on surfaces that seem impossible to print on. #art #printing #design #process

In the summer of 1973, Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase began an intimate project that later became known as From Window. Each morning, from the fourth-floor window of their Tokyo apartment, he photographed his wife, Yōko Wanibe, as she left for work. This daily ritual continued until their divorce in 1976, forming a deeply personal series that reflects the emotional complexity of their relationship. The photographs reveal a wide range of feelings. Yōko, who was a trained actress, often engaged directly with the camera, sometimes playful, sometimes distant, highlighting the performative quality of their repeated farewells. While the images document her departures, they also reflect Fukase’s inner world and the evolving dynamic between them. Over time, Yōko felt the series was less about her and more about him. She later stated that he had only seen her through the lens and believed the photographs of her were ultimately photographs of himself. This realization contributed to the breakdown of their marriage. After their separation, Fukase’s work shifted into darker territory with his well-known series Ravens, which explored loneliness and grief. Still, From Window remains a powerful example of how he transformed personal experience into art, capturing the subtle tension between intimacy and emotional distance.
