In the early hours of the morning on 31 January, 2023, two hooded men boarded ATET, poured accelerant around the venue, and heartlessly set it alight. Facing an uncertain future, this was an incredibly traumatic and stressful time for our team. But in our time of need, the ATET community rallied around us to help rebuild the venue in just 10 days. We are forever grateful to all the amazing friends who so generously donated their time to help us bring ATET back to life. We now call on the community to help us again. After enforcing “the strictest and most onerous noise restrictions ever seen on a venue in Melbourne” City of Melbourne went on to repeatedly confirm ATET was compliant with the legal noise limits. ATET operated at noise levels that were tested and approved as compliant by two separate acoustic experts, and even endorsed by City of Melbourne themselves. How can we be sure? There was a noise limiter installed that was set to these approved noise levels and would automatically cut off the music if the levels were ever exceeded.

This is where it starts to get weird… City of Melbourne stated they enforced “the strictest and most onerous noise restrictions ever seen on a venue in Melbourne”. Sounds dramatic right? Last night Victoria Police laid charges for the arson attack on ATET that nearly destroyed our venue in January 2023. We extend our deepest gratitude to Victoria Police and the dedicated investigators who diligently pursued this case for 18 months to achieve this outcome. Receiving this positive news is a welcome reprieve after the immense challenges of the past 18 months. The arson attack was a deeply traumatic experience for our family and team, and it’s a relief to know that someone is being held accountable for trying to destroy our venue that we worked so hard to create. However, this is only the first step in our fight for justice. Our venue remains closed and we will stop at nothing to hold @City of Melbourne accountable for their actions in terminating our licence. We look forward to exposing the truth about what happened to us and bringing ATET back to life.
