نوریه، قربانی فقر و تبعیض جنسیتی در نظام طالبان است. جنگجویان طالبان دختری با پوشش مردانه را بازداشت کرده‌اند که طی سه سال گذشته در یک رستورانت کار می‌کرد. نوریه در جریان بازجویی گفته است که به‌دلیل فقر مجبور به کار شده؛ پدرش فوت کرده و تنها نان‌آور خانواده است. این در حالی است که طالبان از یک‌سو افغانستان را به فقر گسترده کشانده‌اند و از سوی دیگر، زنان را از حق کار محروم کرده‌اند. سرنوشت نوریه، نمونه‌ای روشن از فاجعه‌ی جاری در افغانستان است
