When Ducky was a few days old, we gave her a tiny parrot stuffie to cuddle with. We did not think she was going to make it, so we wanted to make what we thought would be her final moments as comfortable as possible. After a few (very stressful) days, she got a little bigger, and we decided to upgrade her to a slightly bigger stuffie. But this was a bittersweet event. Mr. Brian and I wandered the aisles of Walmart looking for her next tiny friend, and while outwardly we tried to seem positive and excited, mainly for each other, on the inside we were incredibly sad and anxious. We truly did not think Ducky would stay with us long enough to be able to cuddle her new friend, and it broke our hearts. But something told us to get it anyway, just in case. Luckily for us, she pulled through. Today, we keep all of these stuffies on a shelf by her cage as a sweet reminder of how far she’s come, and how grateful we are that she made it.
