there are common themes in lunar new year treats — there are lots of circular shapes (to represent reunion), gold or golden hues (for fortune and prosperity), food items in the shape of fish (to represent excess), and rice cake in many forms and flavours (meaning growth and progress). you’ll see many of those themes in my cookie tins this time of year because one can never have too much luck or prosperity. #lunarnewyear #chinesenewyear #chineserecipes #cookies #chinesedessert

mochi-stuffed cookies are always a favourite of mine, but leading up to lunar new year i like to use nian gao (new year cake) in place of mochi. the texture of nian gao is very similar to mochi — its chewy and dense, while still being very tender. it has a stronger flavour than mochi (i like the coconut flavour best) and love it paired with the brown sugar, caramelized flavours of the cookie. top the cookie with some flaky salt and gold (for prosperity and fortune, of course) when they come out of the oven. #baking #cookierecipe #lunarnewyear #niangao #chinesenewyear

i haven’t baked all of the @Bon Appétit Magazine holiday cookies in quite some time but when the cheddar caramel slice cookie (chicago mix popcorn is one of my favourite foods on earth!) photos popped up, i knew right away it was going to be one of my recipes i had to squeeze this season. this year’s cookie line up was super fun and there were so many different flavours and textures. hot chocolate cookies peppermint black and white cookies cheddar caramel slices key lime pie thumbprints masala tea creme pies cranberry wine swirl cookies this is my second last big bake of the holiday season. i only have one more batch of cookies to make today. merry christmas and bakemas eve!! #christmascookies #christmasbaking #holidaycookies

maple berry cheesecake christmas jars ❄️ my ideal holiday dessert is one that is shareable and portable. i bake so much during the holiday season and i want to be able to easily bring it to all my friends and family. the components of these christmas jars can be prepped in advance and they’re easily customizable: you get to choose the size of the jar and how to layer each of the components. for my christmas jars, each jar gets oat sugar cookie crumble, maple berry compote, the dreamiest whipped cheesecake cream, and an oat cookie topper. the cookie crumble and topper are made with the same dough recipe, to make prep even easier. find all the ingredients needed for these holiday cookies and the recipe over at @Save-On-Foods 🎄 #christmasbaking #christmasdessert #holidaybaking
