Dr. Richard W. Moriarty, a retired pediatrician from Pittsburgh who helped create the Mr. Yuk sticker (and whose commercials absolutely terrified those of us of a certain age) passed away last week at the age of 83. The Mr Yuk commercial aired during the 1975 Super Bowl and was some of the best branding that I have ever seen. I definitely steered clear of anything that had that sticker on it and to this day can recite the MR. YUUUUK IS MEEEEEEEAAAN commercial ... The fact that it was created in Pittsburgh has grown to be a note of pride in design and branding. Thank you Dr. Moriarty. Your work worked. May you rest in peace.

The @steelers open the season here today vs the 49ers. and we open our third season of the home game poster series with one of our MVP All-Stars Mark Bender. If I said all the good things I wanted to about Mr Bender, it would take forever - so I’ll just silently shake my head in admiration at just how amazingly and overwhelmingly talented this artist is. Mark is professionalism at its highest without one note of ego. He makes this kind of work a pleasure. The posters will be for sale in the retail store at the game.
