The first Japanese-Peruvian handroll bar has opened in Washington, DC! Bringing together the bold flavors of two powerhouse cuisines in the region, Maru San pays homage to Nikkei cuisine, where it combines Peruvian ingredients with Japanese techniques. This Peruvian gastronomy is influenced by Japanese immigrants who arrived and settled in the country in the 1800’s. Chef Carlos Delgado, both a James Beard Award winner and the brains behind Michelin-starred Causa, has brought something unique to Capitol Hill where the dishes feel both thoughtful and innovative. Guests can choose between 20 distinct handrolls, each prepared with high-quality cuts of fish and pristine ingredients all wrapped in a perfectly crisp nori. Maru San is open for walk-in and only taking reservations for their tasting menu. #dctiktok #dcfoodie #japanesefood #washingtondc #peruvian

A mysterious hidden cocktail lounge with a scandalous vibe sits above an iconic Washington, DC restaurant. Tucked above the buzzy Minetta Tavern, you will find Lucy Mercer- a cocktail lounge that is an homage to 18th-century French salons complete with sparkling crystal chandeliers, Persian rugs, and a roaring open fireplace. Lucy Mercer was the secretary to Eleanor Roosevelt and reported mistress to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt from 1916-1945. While the affair between Mercer and FDR is public knowledge at this time, most of those close to the President were largely unaware of the romantic encounters between the two illicit lovers throughout their nearly 30 year relationship. #washingtondc #cocktails #dctiktok #dcfoodie #french

We were invited to preview the cozy rooftop and learned more about the award-winning animator behind the scenes. Laura Alice, who is based in Australia, spent much of her childhood immersed in nature. Now she creates artwork that blends hand-painted techniques with interactive digital forms. The Dome is open now through January 4 where tickets are $29pp. If guests decide to opt-out of the virtual experience, there is a decked out, retro holiday bar that is also open to the public #washingtondc #dctiktok #thingstodoindc #snowglobe #holidays

Their menu celebrates both vibrant Guatemalan street food like shukos, a loaded hotdog packed with toppings and condiments but also more traditional Mayan dishes. Our go-to dishes are always the Pepián stew, one of the oldest and the beloved national dish of Guatemala, as well as the Kaq’ik soup. ‘Maltiox’ translates to thank you in K’iche -- one of the 24 indigenous languages spoken in Guatemala. Hidden deep inside a Washington, DC neighborhood you will find a pay phone that offers much more than just calls. Coined as the “Jokes Phone”, this phone is not programmed to make standard phone calls. Instead, it is designed to do much more including telling callers a knock-knock joke, an interesting fact you may not have known, or even offer you an inspirational message all at no charge. The creative landmark is the work of Don Rutledge, a resident of the neighborhood and a former teacher at the nearby school. After purchasing the old phone online, he spent months configuring it and recording special voice notes to offer jokes on demand to all pedestrians who cross the phone’s path. #dctiktok #washingtondc #hiddengems #thingstodoindc #fyp
