When IShowSpeed landed in Benin, it wasn't just another stop on his "Speed Does Africa" tour. It was the beginning of an experience that captured the heart, soul, and spirit of West Africa in ways few travelers ever truly feel. From the moment he hopped off the plane and into the buzzing streets of Cotonou he knew this place was different, vibrant, welcoming, and alive with history and culture. "Benin is Unique" says Speed One of his first stops was the Amazon Monument, a towering bronze tribute honoring the legendary female warriors of the Kingdom of Dahomey. Standing beneath its massive 30 meter height, Speed was amazed by how big and powerful it felt, realizing this story had helped inspire the Marvel film The Woman King. In a moment full of energy, he even found himself in an intense, playful encounter with reenacting warriors, testing his courage and strength in a challenge he will never forget. In Ouidah, Speed experienced something that left him in awe. During a Vodun celebration, he witnessed Zangbeto masquerades, the straw covered swirling “guardians of the night” believed to represent ancestral and protective spirits. Their drums and movements summoned ancient energy that flowed through the crowd, and at one point, caught up in the frenzy, Speed found himself being chased by the Zangbeto spirits. At first shocked and unsure, he soon realized it was part of the tradition’s powerful expression of spirituality, celebration, and connection to ancestors that runs deep in Beninese culture. He also visited the Gate of No Return at the old slave route, where the weight of history and the resilience of souls echoed in the wind. Later, in a sacred grove, he knelt under an ancient tree revered by locals, offering a quiet prayer and reflecting on the meaning of connection, heritage, and peace. His journey into the Temple of Pythons further deepened his respect for Vodun. Surrounded by these sacred serpents, he felt the power of belief and tradition that has endured for centuries. No trip here would be complete without savoring the local cuisine, rich stews, spicy sauces, and fresh coastal seafood that delighted his taste buds and had his livestream exploding with reactions. Between historic forts, bustling markets, and meaningful conversations with locals about art, spirituality, and life, Speed’s time in Benin became more than content. It became a story of respect, discovery, and connection, a place where the past whispers from every corner and the present dances on every street. 🇧🇯❤️ See captivating momentsin the photos #EwePride #benintiktok🇧🇯 #benin #ishowspeed #speed
