A mellified man, also known as a human mummy confection or honey person, was a legendary medicine created by steeping a preserved body in honey. Detailed in Chinese sources like the 16th-century Bencao Gangmu, the text claims elderly men in Arabia would volunteer for this process near their final days. It wasn't as simple as a body donation; the process started before they passed away. The volunteer would eat nothing but honey and even bathe in it. Shortly, their waste and sweat would consist entirely of honey. When this diet eventually caused them to pass on, the body was sealed in a stone coffin filled with honey. After a century, the contents transformed into a confection supposedly capable of healing broken limbs. This rare substance was then sold in street markets for a hefty price. This technique is known as the "Italian Method" (or Tagliacozzi method).
