On #InternationalDayOfCleanEnergy, LRC commits to justice as the Philippines pursues more renewables. In Batangas, farmers face a quandary: land or electricity? Beneficiaries of the goverment's land reform program, they want to continue to grow food and make a living. But solar farms are also an economic opportunity -- and a chance to fight the climate crisis. There are no easy answers. For LRC, the guiding principle is fairness. Sign the petition to suspend the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Project and respect the rights of the Palaw’an people: https://c.org/sL7hR74TKk The Palaw’an people are forced to pay the deadly price of the demand for critical #EnergyTransition minerals with the expansion of this nickel mining and processing complex linked to Japan's Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. For the past 50 years, this mining project has stripped lands and forests, and polluted rivers, registering highly cancerous levels of hexavalent chromium. The fossil fuel-driven climate crisis cannot be resolved with another ecological crisis. It’s time to stop destructive mining practices like Rio Tuba. #BuhayBagoKita
“This is my charge to you. You are to be a light bearer. You are to bear the light.” Madeleine L’Engle At the Global People’s Climate March here at #COP30, we joined thousands upon thousands who wield the light of the Sun to illuminate the road towards a better world. We marched for a fossil fuel phaseout and a just transition to renewable energy. We marched for indigenous peoples’ rights and solutions–real solutions, not false solutions. Because from rainforestation to agroecology, #TheFutureIsIndigenous. We marched for a fair and just world, where #CorporateCriminals responsible for burning up the world are held to account, and the vulnerable and oppressed peoples of the world are liberated. We hold the line with indigenous communities to end the era of coal this Global Day of Action on #COP30. In the runup to the ongoing # UNFCCC climate talks, we marched in solidarity with the Taboli Manobo people of South Cotabato, who are paving a just energy transition pathway in their ancestral domains through the solar villages. We sounded the alarm on coal mining encroaching into the watershed landscape where these solar villages stand, perpetuating not only the destruction of forest biodiversity and people’s livelihoods, but also the continued heating of the climate. Stand with the Taboli Manobo against coal mining. Real climate solutions are only possible if #TheFutureIsIndigenous.

🌳Native Trees, Indigenous Voices.✊🏽 A ceremonial exchange of native Nato, Tambis, and Batobato tree seedlings was led by indigenous Taboli Manobo communities, together with other indigenous and civil society groups in solidarity with them, last July 30 in South Cotabato. These tree species grow within the ancestral domains of the Taboli Manobo, which safeguards the 💧headwaters of the 116,000-hectare Kabulnan Watershed, a vital landscape for natural resources, biodiversity, and the climate. The seedlings represent the commitment to reforest and protect the watershed. But the ⛰️sacred land is threatened by the expansion of a 17,000-hectare coal mining corridor linked to San Miguel Corporation, which encroaches into the watershed and the indigenous territories. It’s time we listen to the wisdom and knowledge of Indigenous People who have safeguarded nature since time immemorial. Let’s build a #ForestFuture together. Let’s make our forests #CoalFree! 💯 #TheFutureIsIndigenous #DrawTheLine

For the T’boli-Manobo, to mourn the dead is to disturb their peace. But the wounds of loss remain fresh for an indigenous woman and her community struggling to break free from the grip of powerful forces. On #WorldSocialJusticeDay, we present “We Don’t Mourn the Dead”. It is the first in LRC's anthology, “In My Village”, which brings little-known stories of indigenous peoples to light. The animated short is a production of the Legal Rights and Natural Resources Center, in collaboration with Independent Mind Productions, Inc., and Friendly Foes, with support from Samdhana Institute. #TheFutureIsIndigenous #StandWithIndigenousPeople
On #WorldEnergyDay, LRC launches 'Pangako at Panganib sa Laguna de Bay', which shines a light on the plight of fisherfolk communities as the country's largest floating solar farm is being pursued in the province. While solar energy🌞is a form of #SustainableRenewableEnergy, the government and private sector must ensure communities benefit from projects and have a say in the process. Justice is an essential component for supporting #JustGoodRenewables. ⚖️
#AlamMoBa? The #ClimateAccountability (CLIMA) Bill will penalize companies that contribute significantly to the climate crisis.
