Severe flooding has displaced nearly 400,000 people across southern and central Mozambique. Continued climate shocks like these are adding pressure to a country grappling with conflict in the north. Families are sheltering in overcrowded sites where protection risks are rising. Many remain cut off as flooded roads delay assistance. Urgent support is needed to protect displaced families and prevent conditions from worsening.

Goodwill Ambassador Theo James visited Syria for the first time, stepping into the country that once gave refuge to his grandfather. There, he met people rebuilding their lives after years of conflict. “As I stand here in Damascus, I think of the journey my grandfather made after escaping war in Greece. He was welcomed by the people of Syria and found shelter in this historic city. Without their support in time of need, I wouldn’t be here today. His experience instilled in me that all of us – anyone, anywhere – can become a refugee. It’s a reminder that we all have the choice to provide safety to those fleeing conflict and persecution", Theo shared.

Millions of people in Sudan are facing escalating violence and displacement. UNHCR is on the ground providing life-saving support, but the crisis remains critically underfunded. UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador @katgraham spoke with UNHCR’s Dana Hughes to hear first-hand why awareness, support and action are more urgent than ever.

A Russian drone attack hit residential buildings in Dnipro, #Ukraine, on Thursday. This is yet another strike in a war that continues through the depths of winter. With temperatures dropping to –15°C, families are left facing destroyed homes with life-threatening needs. UNHCR and our partner Mission Proliska were on site immediately, providing blankets, emergency repair kits and psychosocial support to people traumatized by the attack. In Chad, High Commissioner Barham Salih met Sudanese refugees who had just escaped conflict and carnage in Sudan. He took what he witnessed and the stories he heard to #WEF26. This was his message to the world.
