A video purporting to show the sinking of an Iranian warship was released by the United States Department of Defense US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that a US submarine sank an Iranian warship of the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Foreign minister Vijitha Herath identified the Iranian vessel as the IRIS Dena. Deck shape and mast of the vessel seen in video matched the file imagery of the same type of warship as IRIS DENA. Thousands of students have attended a rally at University College Dublin calling for systemic change in how the university responds to sexual violence and gender-based harm. The rally was organised after a sexually explicit image of a female student was shared with staff and students. The student has said that she was the victim of rape three years ago after which a photograph was taken without her knowledge or consent. She has said that she feels “abandoned” by UCD over its handling of the matter. UCD Students’ Union said it hoped the rally, organised in partnership with the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, would be a watershed moment in how the university and wider society address the issue of sexual violence. UCD said it acknowledged “the deep distress and anguish” caused to the student. It said “(her) needs have been at the centre of the University’s response throughout”. More than 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers who have been killed since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine are buried in Lviv’s historic Lychakiv Cemetery.
