A man has been charged following a tense five-hour standoff with police in Sydney’s south-west, during which officers were allegedly threatened and pelted with roof tiles. Emergency services were called to a unit complex in Punchbowl late Saturday night after reports of a domestic-related incident. When police arrived shortly before 11pm, they were refused entry. A 26-year-old man then climbed onto the roof of the building, prompting immediate safety concerns. Police allege the man began threatening officers and throwing roof tiles from the roof, forcing officers to take cover. A perimeter was established and nearby streets were partially closed as the situation escalated. Specialist resources, including Tactical Operations Unit officers, police negotiators and Police Rescue, were deployed to manage the incident. Officers remained on scene for several hours, attempting to negotiate a peaceful resolution while maintaining public safety. The standoff continued into the early hours of Sunday morning. At around 4:15am, police entered the unit and arrested the man without serious injury to officers or members of the public. He was taken to a police station and charged with multiple offences, including using a weapon to resist police, threatening injury to prevent lawful detention, intimidating police, destroying property, contravening an apprehended violence order, and breaching bail conditions. The man was refused bail and is due to appear before the courts. Police said incidents of this nature pose a significant risk to officers and the public, and the deployment of tactical units is used to safely resolve volatile situations. -------

A man shot dead in a brazen daylight attack in Blacktown today has been identified as Mal Seve — a Sydney man known for his previous affiliation with the Western Sydney drill group ONEFOUR. Emergency services were called to Carinya Street just after midday following reports of multiple gunshots. Seve was found on the roadway with critical wounds to his neck, chest and leg. Paramedics attempted to save him, but he died at the scene. According to police, witnesses reported seeing a black Mazda utility vehicle speeding away moments after the shooting. A short pursuit followed, ending in a crash on Kildare Road. Two males — believed to be a teenager and a man in his early 20s — were arrested after attempting to flee on foot. They were taken to Blacktown Police Station where charges are expected to be laid. Police Investigating Possible Gang-Related Motive Detectives from the Homicide Squad and Blacktown Police Area Command are investigating whether the killing is linked to ongoing criminal tensions in Western Sydney. “This was an extremely dangerous act carried out on a suburban street in the middle of the day,” Superintendent Brendan Gorman said. “We are examining all lines of inquiry, including whether this is part of wider organised criminal activity.” Background: Previous Convictions Court documents show Seve was previously jailed in 2020 after pleading guilty to affray and participating in a criminal group. The charges stemmed from a violent pub brawl in Mt Druitt involving at least 12 people. He was sentenced to two years in prison, with a non-parole period of 12 months. He later faced additional charges over an alleged assault inside prison. Seve had been publicly linked to ONEFOUR, a prominent drill rap group from Western Sydney whose music and legal troubles drew significant police attention over the past several years. Community Shocked Residents described hearing a rapid series of bangs before seeing the injured man collapse on the street. “It was like five or six loud cracks,” one neighbour said. “Next thing police were everywhere.” Police are appealing for dash-cam or CCTV footage from the surrounding streets, urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. ---

A sweeping national crackdown on large-scale fraud has seen 33 search warrants executed across Australia, targeting organised crime groups accused of siphoning tens of millions of dollars from Commonwealth programs. The coordinated operation—led jointly by the Financial Crime and Money Laundering Working Group (FCML) and the Fraud Fusion Taskforce (FFT)—brought together more than 75 investigators from federal, state and territory agencies. Authorities say the actions have already disrupted more than $50 million in alleged fraud linked to six separate investigations. Read the full story on the SCN Worldstar app
