I had this idea only a few months ago and with little time to prep I knew this Christmas would be the one to execute it. Each characters story is different and I welcome you to explore how I’ve reinterpreted them. I enjoyed making more fiction out of fiction, and reframing these characters from the most wonderful time of the year so into members of scary season bred some interesting results, many more like this to come. What if Christmas was Halloween? The season of joy and giving, now brings fear and grief. Beloved figures, now grotesque in their portrayal. Beloved places, now wastelands of betrayal. The North Pole, what was once known as a magical land where Saint Nick and his little elves collaborate to Bring Christmas cheer, now sits almost desolate, the white snow covered with the remains of discarded reindeer and carvings of elvish pleas. The elves are no longer helpers, but slaves, they build not toys, but weapons. The reindeer fly not in the night sky, but tread through the thick arctic snow, carrying on their backs the immense weight of the glutton Claus, a saint no more. With his missus by his side, they tread the arctic for conquest, both conjoined and contempt with their sadism, leaving behind them a trail of agony. You better watch out, and you better not cry. Once a catalyst of cheer, now a harbinger of wrath. His piers still bow to him, but not from reverence, but from fear. For the look in poor Rudolph’s eyes are not kind, that once brilliant red glow is gone, and has fully engulfed his eyesight. The abominable creature who was once nothing but a temporary construction was given life, and those responsible were met with an immediate end. Many fought to subdue the creature, ultimately constraining it with rope and leather, but even immobilized it still desired flesh, but like clockwork, once the sun came up again, the monster would scream and liquify into the frozen ground, and once the nighttime comes, it rises. What was once a man, now cursed to roam with no flesh, no blood and no soul. An empty structure not worthy to be named a vessel, driven solely by a desire to be again. It will stop at nothing, to be human…nothing. Krampus, the demon of folklore, promised to punish those who misbehave. The difference now? The innocent feel his wrath. The once haunted Ebenezer, becomes the one who haunts. Heat Miser and Cold miser, the gifted but morally unjust half brothers, misunderstood by the world, determined to “fix” it And lastly, the thing. A deformed creation , its vile nature is only transcended by its grotesque appearance. Rage, envy, greed, these are all it knows. Solely an amalgamation of all the wrong within mankind, it has always been a villain, and it always will be.
