Have you ever SEEN this??? Let me know in the comments! 🤔 Y’all, I GOTS to show you this absolutely kick ass receptacle detail. I have never seen this done…ever. Not saying it hasn’t been done, but I’ve never seen or heard of anyone doing it. I have a 12” tall baseboard that runs pretty much throughout my house that we are currently finishing up. We’ve hit up a few “luxury” home tours over the past couple of years and 12” tall base was the norm with receptacles mounted in the base. I really love the look, it takes you back to a more grand time where homes were crafted with skillful pride and had exceptional details everywhere. On these “luxury” homes (range from 2 to 10million) they had a standard outlet and cover slapped onto the face of the base. I got to thinking that it looked just blah, too plain. So I had an idea that popped into my head to use a screw less faceplate and recess it into the base and have the cover set flush. I got busy, jumped on sketch up and designed a jig that I could cut out on my laser cutter. I made the jig to where I could interchange different faceplates to allow for multiple router bits to do different cuts & It works flawlessly! Once my baseboard is painted, I’m ready to install my receptacles and screw less faceplates. I started by using standard deco series outlets (custom color matched painted btw) which are installed into my adjustable outlet boxes (which come in clutch for this application) I had to shim the box slightly, here or there to make sure the box was centered dead nuts into the mortise. Next, You grab the base plate and screw that onto the outlet then simply snap the cover on & BOOM…the absolute slickest receptacle detail I’ve ever seen! Keep an eye out for the video tutorial! Thought I would share an update on one of the rooms I nearly have completed on my house. Here is a photo progression of the coffered ceiling I installed in my “sitting” room. I wanted the trim in here to really be kickass! A conversation piece…if you will. So I opted to go with a crisscross pattern which also is ideal mount for the fandalier. If you noticed, I installed 1/2” plywood on the ceiling first so I would have a solid nailer for all of my framework and wood panels. My beam dimensions are 8x8. The sides of the beam have a dado to accept the bottom pc. This keeps a consistent reveal and is a strong joint, plus gives you a little forgiveness when building the beams. I used 7.5” cove crown molding up in each panel as well as the perimeter of the room. The wood panels are actually not wood! They are @ChamClad | Sustainable Siding soffit panels in sun bleached oak. I had some left over from the soffits on the house and decide to utilize it here! After all the paint prep was completed where I used @SashcoInc Big stretch in black for all the caulking and a 2 part nail hole filling regiment. I used light weight spackle, sanded, Bondo spot putty & sanded again. I then primed the trim in a grey @sherwinwilliams extreme bonding primer. Let that dry, and sanded it back down with 320 sandpaper. Wiped it down and sprayed this beautiful color in Sherwin Williams Charcoal Blue (Emerald urethane trim paint in semi gloss) I think this is my new favorite color! Turned out like glass. 🤌🏻 The walls are the same color but SW Pro 200 eggshell. I am beyond tickled with the way it turned out! Time for some tile on the floor now! Definitely will need a nice leather chair and a glass of bourbon to go in there too 🤙🏻
