On Friday, 2/6, schools will take part in a coordinated action that educates, builds visibility, demonstrates collective power and drives momentum toward the Tier 6 rally in Albany on March 8. And while we love the enthusiasm from our animal friends… 2/6 is all about Making it HUMAN. Share your posts and tag us in your stories so we can help put a face — or thousands of faces — to the importance of fixing Tier 6. Albany is listening.

We're all focused on Fixing Tier 6 to make it fair with the same retirement age as in Tier 4, but many teachers hired after 2012 don't know the history of previous pension systems. True or false: Tier 4 started off as a much better tier than the current Tier 6? Drop your answer in the comments and make sure you sign up to rally in Albany on March 8! http://uft.org/tier6-rally #teachersoftiktok #unionstrong #tier6 #pension

Our fight to pass the #Paraprofessional RESPECT Check bill continues! Swipe to hear UFT Paraprofessional Chapter Chairperson Priscilla Castro on how #paraprofessionals and UFT PACs are pushing the bill with new City Council members. Paras: Check your email for Monday’s update and next steps.
Our first Day of Action of 2026: Make It Visible was powerful because you made it real inside your schools. This is what collective action looks like. But we’re just getting started. February is about taking the story we’ve started for state legislators and making it real. Because behind this fight to Fix Tier 6 are human beings who care for the most vulnerable part of our city’s future – and we matter. Talk to your Chapter Leader about your school's plans for 2/6.
2025 was a year for the books! UFT members and leaders worked in solidarity on issues like class size mandates, RESPECT for NYC's paraprofessionals, premium free healthcare and cell phone bans. We welcomed new members and celebrated the work all educators do at events throughout the year. Most of all, members' activism improved working conditions across the board. Looking forward to what we will accomplish together in 2026. 💙 #yearinreview #teachersoftiktok #unionstrong #nyc #2025recap
Join a union. Make lifelong friends. Fight for dignity at work. #teachersoftiktok #unionstrong #uft #teacherlife #union @zakkiyyarock
An injustice to one is an injustice to all. District 21's motto — “It’s not about me, it’s about we” — reflects who we are as unionists. Through this action, we demonstrated that we will continue to stand as a united front. Educators will not tolerate disrespect in the workplace.
At a press conference ahead of today's City Council meeting, Speaker Adrienne Adams talked about needing dignity, opportunity and safety for all New Yorkers, especially pay equity for women and people of color. She could have used this same meeting to pass our Paraprofessional RESPECT check legislation and provide thousands of NYC paraprofessionals with those exact things, but instead she continues to block our bill. But she still has a chance. Adrienne Adams, don't let this be your legacy. We won't stop until our paraprofessionals get the respect they deserve. Put your money where your mouth is and let our bill pass!

On Nov. 6, PS 130 in Manhattan hosted a food distribution event to support families and members of the school community facing food insecurity. Kudos to the school’s Parent Association, staff and community volunteers for coming together to make this happen at a time when it’s needed most. Ensuring our children have access to nutritious food is essential to their ability to learn and thrive. Please visit uft.org/food-assistance for resources.
The paraprofessional shortage is a citywide crisis. But the salaries our paraprofessionals earn are putting them in crisis, too. On Nov. 13, we came together as a union, wearing blue and waving signs to support the workers who are the backbone of our schools. We made a powerful case at City Hall about why paraprofessionals deserve a $10,000 annual payment to better afford living in our city.

More than 1,700 UFT members gathered at the New York Hilton this Sunday for Teacher Union Day to honor the union’s past leaders and celebrate the members carrying their legacy forward. This year marked the 65th anniversary of the 1960 strike, when more than 5,000 members of the newly formed United Federation of Teachers walked off the job after being denied the right to collectively bargain. The event featured inspiring speeches and moving tributes to members we’ve lost in the past year. The energy and passion in that ballroom renewed our collective resolve to confront the challenges ahead. Thank you to everyone who joined us! #teachersoftiktok #teachertok #unionstrong
Do you know why we celebrate #TeacherUnionDay this weekend? Travel back in time with us to revisit the history of our union ahead of tomorrow's event. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there! 💙
